The existing system comprised 260 km of sewers, 800 manholes, two screw lift stations, one major and three minor pumping stations. The whole network was surveyed by CCTV and redesigned for projected flows for the year 2010.

All existing pumping stations are now abandoned and two new ones constructed. The sewerage network was completely replaced. Key features of the project include sewers and pumping stations to depths of up to 20m in areas of high water table, and the extensive use of micro-tunnelling for approximately 17 km of sewer construction.
