The existing system comprised of 310 km of sewers, 950 manholes, four screw lift stations and three major pumping stations. The whole network was surveyed by CCTV and redesigned for projected flows for the year 2025.

All existing pumping stations are now abandoned and two new ones constructed. The sewerage network was completely replaced. Key features of the project included the construction of sewers and pumping stations to depths of up to 12 m in areas of a high water table and the extensive use of microtunneling for approximately 12 km of new sewer construction.
