Gulf Consult has been appointed by the Council of Ministers’ Security Decisions Follow-up Committee(SDFC) to provide consultancy services for the study and design of the new Customs Camp at West Shuaiba. The 811,502 square-meter site is conveniently located between highway 30 and 40 in the West Shuaiba area parallel to the current Shuaiba Port.

The area is planned to be developed into a secured container yard that will cater to the growing demands of the shipping industry, and help reduce the load on Shuwaikh Port. The project has been divided into three distinct areas; Administration, Customs and Yards, and incorporates a variety of facilities, such as:

  • An Administration Building for the Customs personnel and other governmental agencies
  • An Administration Building for the Kuwait Ports Authority, and the Port Operator
  • Customs inspection building along with an LCL facility and scanning equipment
  • Housing accommodation for the Customs personnel
  • A Command Control Center and other security facilities
  • Maintenance workshops and storage yards

The Customs Camp will generate traffic estimated at 75 trailers per minute between Shuaiba Port and the yard, which contains approximately 15,000 ground slots for containers, reefers and RORO. It is anticipated that the camp will handle over 1.6 Million TEU per year.
