Gulf Consult was engaged to develop prototypical Concept Designs for Highway Service Centres in Libya for Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al Kharafi and Sons. Concept Designs were prepared for both a minor highway service centre and a major service centre. The designs were developed as prototypes for service centres along a major interstate highway of approximately 1,000 km. The minor service centre concept design provides separate service areas for private vehicles and for trucks. Each of the service areas includes a petrol station, mechanical workshop, mosque, restaurant and supermarket. The major service station concept design was developed to accommodate a greater program of facilities, and provide a private vehicular service area and a VIP rest area.

The facilities include:

Petrol Station
Supermarket
Police Station
Ambulance Centre & Clinic
Restaurants
Mosque
Toilets
Recreational facilities including playground and soccer field
Picnic Facilities
Landscape features including water features and an aviary
Car Parking
Private Rest Area for VIPs including a two storey villa and private gardens
